Chaired by one of Australia’s pre-eminent experts on non-profit organisations, Michael Goldsworthy, this panel discussion explored key strategic insights and new strategies that boards, chief executive officers and senior management teams should consider as part of their organisation’s strategic direction.

What is the difference between a not-for-profit and a non-profit organisation?

There is no difference between a non-profit organisation and a not-for-profit organisation. These two terms are simply different ways of describing the same type of entity. There are several more terms that are sometimes used to describe these types of organisations and the sector they constitute, these include: for-purpose, third sector, community business, civil society, non-governmental, social-benefit. The abbreviations for these terms are also used, including: NFPs (not-for-profits), NGOs (non-governmental organisations), NPOs (non-profit organisations), NPIs (non-profit institutes).

Better Boards Conference 2010

The 5th Australasian Better Boards Conference, held at The Novotel Sydney Brighton Beach in July of this year, was a highly engaging and successful event with delegates from across Australia and New Zealand filling the venue to capacity. Thirty speakers offered their valuable knowledge and insights on fundamental topics which included practical tips, tools and discussions around governance, leadership, legal matters, sustainability, risk management, strategic planning, project management, nonprofit research and their applications within nonprofit organisations.
